Cabot Shores is located along Indian Brook, which leads you west to three amazing waterfalls and into the Indian Brook wilderness. Go north and you meet the French River wilderness. We have maps and have worked on developing a wilderness trail on the south and north sides of Indian Brook. By summer, you can add swimming and boogie boarding to the exploits on Indian Brook and by winter, snowshoeing. Enjoy geocaching? Get out your GPS, because there are caches throughout Cabot Shores, and all along the trail to Indian Brook Great Falls.
Hikes are of different levels of difficulty, from the Red Island Trail – which can be reached by beach or 3km down the Cabot Trail from us – to the highest waterfall (North River). Waterfalls are a bit of a favourite with us. Here’s some of what you’ll discover:
Indian Brook Falls
(Challenging Hike)
Duration: 4-5 hours round trip. It really depends on how often you stop for wild strawberries, swims, or the occasional photo.
North River Falls
(Moderate, but Long)
Duration: 3.5-5 hours round trip. Be prepared, this is a 16km hike. It’s looooooong.
Black Brook Falls & Mary Ann Falls
(Easy, and You’ll See Two Falls)
Duration: 15-20 minutes for each location. The two falls are about a four-minute drive from each other.
Glooscap Cave (The Fairy Hole)
Duration: 4-5 hours round trip. This is a tricky one, be sure to check with us for a list of supplies.
Spinnakin Mountain Summit
(Home of the Hidden Lakes)
Duration: 4 hours round trip. The views are so breathtaking, your hiking boots will transform into dancing shoes.
Cape Breton Highland Park
(The Grand Daddy of Adventure)
Duration: As long as you like. We have maps, advice, and even guides if you need them.
