A cozy blend of tradition, artistry, and wilderness.

Introducing our newest creation at Cabot Shores — the Highlands Yurt, a handcrafted blend of Mongolian design and Cape Breton craftsmanship.

Featuring a circular wall of local spruce, crafted around a traditional Mongolian tono with skylight, bamboo flooring, hand-carved wooden window frames featuring wood milled at Cabot Shores,, and soft natural finishes that bring warmth and character to your stay. The interior is thoughtfully furnished, creating a comfortable, inviting space for relaxation.

Natural light filters through the tono ceiling, illuminating the Mongolian-inspired design details and creating a tranquil atmosphere that connects you to the outdoors even while indoors. The attached private outhouse style washroom and a summer shower adds an extra touch of comfort. The yurt remains cozy with a electric heater and intimate lighting that makes it feel like a true sanctuary in the wilderness.

Step outside and feel the calm of the Cape Breton Highlands surrounding you — a landscape that invites long walks to the beach, quiet hikes, or snowshoeing right from your door. The sights and sounds of nature here set the perfect backdrop for mindfulness, reflection, or simple moments of joy — reading a book, sipping tea, or just taking in the view from your yurt’s outdoor space.

Blending the heritage of traditional nomadic yurts with local Cape Breton craftsmanship, the Highlands Yurt offers a warm, grounding stay rooted in natural simplicity. It’s more than a night away — it’s a retreat where design, wilderness, and wellbeing come together.

After a day exploring, soak under the stars in your private cedar hot tub, or head to the Lodge to gather with others — share food, music, and laughter by the hearth, or enjoy a friendly game of pool. Our Bistro offers delicious, locally inspired meals made from fresh seasonal ingredients — the perfect way to refuel and connect after a day outdoors.

Throughout the year, guests can do kayaking or canoeing adventures, or winter snowshoe treks. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway, a solo escape, or time with loved ones, the Highlands Yurts combines comfort, artistry, and the restorative power of nature — a place to unwind, reconnect, and have a little fun along the way.

Rated One of the Coolest Places to Go Glamping in Canada

"From fully furnished chalets to geodesic domes and yurts, there is an accommodation for every type of camper here. But one of the coolest on offer? The Treetop Village, which is composed of geodesic domes on high stilts so you can sleep among the trees. Each dome offers something different — breathtaking views of the Atlantic, famous views of the full moon and stars. Don’t forget to visit the private beach while you’re there, too."

"Very Unique & Comfortable"

The Cedar Yurt on night 2 was the highlight. If you're looking for a cool, unique place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors you can't do better than Cabot Shores. As a plus, the property is very dog friendly so we got to bring our Weimaraner. He had a blast on his first vacation

"Very Cozy"

We stayed in the Cedar Yurt over the holidays and had an amazing vacation. The Yurt was so cozy with the fire place - we even stayed during heavy snow and wind and it was very cozy. The grounds are beautiful. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Everyone should visit here!
