Every Saturday during the winter, there is a guided hike around the St. Ann’s Bay
hills off the Cabot Trail.
This snowshoe hike took us high with views of St. Ann’s Bay and onto the
north-side Indian Brook Falls Trail, pretty much opposite Cabot Shores and just off
the Cabot Trail. Here we are at the Indian Brook lookout.
Hikers of all ages and abilities are welcome. And often there are almost as many
friendly dogs as there are people. We go to some great spots–including waterfalls,
along rivers and into the Cape Breton Highlands with views of St. Ann”s Bay, the
Atlantic, hidden lakes and rivers.
The other waterfall trail, on the southside of Indian Brook, is much more ambitious, at leastr a three hour rather than 1.5 hour outing:
Hiking to Indian Brook Great Falls
But you don’t have to hike on Saturday morning or even leave Cabot Shores.

Here are some folks going out into our nature sanctuary and in cold weather across the lake to our beach…
Contact us to know the starting point. Bring snowshoes when there’s lots of snow, water and warm clothes. We’ll let you know if lunch or soup is being offered. All voluntary, no charge.
For information, check the Event Sheet for St. Ann’s area, call or email Cabot Shores
([email protected]; 902 929 2584).
PS What if there is no snow? Well, then it’s straight up hiking
And, on this trail, going up Ski Tuonella before the snows, a dog finds a sink hole pond normally iced over.
