As the winter frost gradually retreats, Cape Breton Island awakens to a spectacular transformation, beckoning adventurers to explore the legendary Cabot Trail. Nestled in an ideal location, Cabot Shores Wilderness Retreat is your gateway to embracing spring’s magic on this renowned corridor.
Scenic Drives on the Cabot Trail
For those looking for leisurely exploration, the Cabot Trail’s winding roads offer the pinnacle of roadside sightseeing. Each curve reveals breathtaking coastal views, quaint villages, and expansive panoramas that define the beauty of Cape Breton Island. Stop at designated viewpoints and admire the rejuvenation of nature as it unfolds in vibrant colors along this iconic trail.
Wilderness Photography
Photography and nature exploration along the Cabot Trail is a must for those with a keen eye for beauty. Document the essence of spring as it unfolds in cascading waterfalls, blooming flowers, and dynamic coastal landscapes. Staying at Cabot Shores allows you to witness and capture Cape Breton’s springtime transition with ease.
Spring Hiking at Highlands National Park
Following the Cabot Trail north from Cabot Shores, you’ll eventually reach Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This stunning natural area exhibits a rugged yet idyllic wilderness landscape and captivating vistas. With 26 hiking trails from easy to difficult, it’s no surprise that Highlands is a bucket list destination for many travelers. Please keep in mind that trail availability can vary from year to year, depending on recent weather events.
Whale Watching
As the season shifts, so does the coastal marine life. A handful of whale-watching charters operate just off the Cabot Trail, making them an easy stop as you drive around Cape Breton Island. It’s an awe-inspiring way to connect with the ocean’s largest inhabitants. We especially recommend Oshan Whale Watch in Bay St. Lawrence. If you go there, say hi to Captain Cyril and first mate Cheryl from Dr. Paul of Cabot Shores.
Immersive Live Entertainment (Especially live music and delicious local food)
Live music and other entertainment is a staple of the Cabot Shores experience. Whether it’s the rhythm of a local music festival, the flavors of a culinary event, or the warmth of a community gathering, spring invites you to immerse yourself in the local culture. Cabot Shores provides an ideal launchpad for off and onsite festivities, helping you create lasting memories of your Cape Breton spring escape.
Starting in April, the Gaelic College has live “Ceilidhs” on Wednesday evenings, from 730-9:00pm.
On May 25th, at Cabot Shores, as part of the Relaxing Rhythm Retreat there will be a “drumming jam” on Saturday night. There are still a few spots available to participate in the Retreat and otherwise you can visit the Cabot Shores Bistro and likely hear live music. All summer season, starting on June 29th, there is an evening of a feast, concert and music jam. Consult our Event Calendar and especially the Concert Series as part of the Cabot Trail Acoustic Festival Series at Cabot Shores.
