Cabot Shores sits on the Atlantic coast of Cape Breton, along the Cabot Trail and out the door you can beach comb, hike through our nature sanctuary or head for the Cape Breton Highlands.
You are along Indian Brook which, as you go west, leads to 3 waterfalls and into the Indian Brook Wilderness. Go north and you meet the French River Wilderness. We have maps and have worked on developing a wilderness trail on the south and north sides of Indian Brook. By summer, you can add swimming or bogeyboarding to your exploits on Indian Brook and by winter, snowshoeing…You can use gps and do geocaching anytime and there are caches not only at Cabot Shores, but along the Trail to Indian Brook Great Falls.
Hikes are of different levels of difficulty, from the Red Island Trail–which you can reach by beach or 3km down the Cabot Trail from us, to thehighest waterfall (North River). On our blog you’ll find out about our 3 Favorite Waterfalls (including North River and Indian Brook) as well as dramatic 360 degree hikes a bit more difficult to the Spinnakin with hidden lakes near the summit and the legendary Glooscap Cave.
You are also not far from the Cape Breton Highland Park and we can provide maps and advice and even guides to your hiking there.
Our guests have ranged from novice hikers to world class rock climbers and geocachers. All are welcome and we have an information guide on hiking trails of Cape Breton, both far and right out the door.
