By Dr. Paul | January 12, 2012

Our heartfelt Thank You to all the Interns, Wwoofers, Helpx-ers and other Volunteers that helped out at Cabot Shores in 2011. What an amazing team! Well done, we could not have made it without you!!
Here are some of the projects you did for Cabot Shores:

Gampo Abbey: Tibetan Shambhala Buddhist Monastery located in Nova Scotia

By Dr. Paul | January 5, 2012

Gampo Abbey is the only Tibetan Buddhist monastery for Westerners. Founded in 1984 by renowned Tibetan Buddhist teacher and meditation master, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, it is located near Pleasant Bay on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Approximately 30 monastics, both men and women, live in community and practice traditional monastic discipline under the guidance of the Abbot, Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche and principal teacher Acharya Pema Chodron.
Life at the Abbey for the monastics is inspired by the view and practice intended to wake oneself up fully, to help others to also wake up, and to create an enlightened society.
If you are […]

Halifax Chronicle Herald Article on Cabot Shores

By Dr. Paul | January 4, 2012

Bruce Erskine called yesterday from the Halifax Chronicle Herald, where he covers the Nova Scotia business scene.  He wanted my to get my reaction:    Cabot Shores  being rated one of the top 3 lodgings in Nova Scotia by USA Today Travel…
It was a good way to start the New Year, seeing Cabot Shores in the business section  of Nova Scotia’s largest newspaper
and  getting calls for interviews from Cape Breton radio stations…
Late this morning, Barbara was about to demonstrate Shambhala meditation at a “Senior’s Lunch” in
St. Ann’s and before she could get started people were coming up to us and […]

Strathspey Place Performing Arts Centre in Cape Breton

By Dr. Paul | January 4, 2012

The emergence of Celtic music on the world stage has led to a focus on Inverness County, Cape Breton as a major repository of pure Scottish culture. Acadian and First Nations communities complement and enrich traditional Cape Breton Island music, dance, and folklore.
The need to preserve and promote this unique and diverse cultural heritage brought community groups together to envision a facility which would be appropriate for the performance, production, and training requirements of the region. The result is Strathspey Place, located at the Allan J. MacEachen International Academic & Cultural Centre along with Dalbrae Academy.
Strathspey Place is located on […]

The Best Rated Nova Scotia Hotels: USA Today Travel Picks Cabot Shores

By Dr. Paul | January 2, 2012

David Harris writes in USA Today Travel Tips of the attractions of Nova Scotia, from Halifax to the  Cape Breton Highlands.
Harris says that Nova Scotia has “fine and unique hotels,”  and then selects what he considers as the Best Rated Nova Scotia Hotels.
Cabot Shores is mentioned as one of three Nova Scotia best rated hotels, and the only one mentioned from Cape Breton Island.
We are grateful that Nova Scotia is getting such extensive press these days and that Cabot Shores is mentioned in the article.
We congratulate Calvin Wadden, owner of Pictou Lodge, a place we refer our guests often in transit to […]

BBC Travel with Lonely Planet Ranks Cape Breton Among 5 Best Islands

By Dr. Paul | December 4, 2011

Cape Breton heads to the top of BBC Travel’s list of the world’s best islands.
This year, it is only Santorini, Greece and Bali, Indonesia that are ahead
of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.  They highlight Cape Breton’s scenery–
the great views, the “cliff-backed beaches”, the forests– and the multi-cultural environment
of Cape Breton,  typified by local music and ceilidh.
Here you can read more about BBC Travel’s rationale.
